Woodland Wonder

Set against a breathtaking oceanfront backdrop, Woodland Wonder is a masterful blend of innovation, sustainability, and timeless craftsmanship. Designed with JBF blocks for exceptional natural insulation, this home achieves impressive energy efficiency while maintaining warmth, comfort, and character throughout.

At the heart of the design are handcrafted posts and beams salvaged from a family barn in Quebec, lovingly transported across the country to Vancouver Island. These storied timbers are more than structure — they’re a statement. The home was built around them, allowing the posts and beams to become an architectural focal point that beautifully merges old-world heritage with modern design.

The main level features a spacious master suite oriented toward the ocean, complete with a large ensuite, walk-in closet, and a four-panel  Nano door system that opens directly to the view — letting the sea breeze and sound of the waves fill the room. Extending from both the master suite and main living area, a generous patio creates seamless indoor-outdoor living and the perfect space to take in the coastal panorama. The master suite and mudroom wing are angled strategically from the main structure to capture more natural light and optimize ocean views, enhancing both beauty and functionality.

A two-story sunroom with expansive windows and skylights adds another layer of sustainability and charm, offering year-round growing potential and a bright, tranquil space connected to the outdoors. Above, a loft overlooks the main living area, featuring a cozy sitting nook, home office, and an additional guest bedroom — all designed to feel intimate yet open.

Connected by a covered breezeway, the home extends to a matching accessory building that mirrors the main house’s architectural style. This secondary structure includes a two-car garage, workshop, and a secondary suite above, complete with a balcony overlooking the water. The breezeway itself takes advantage of the natural terrain, forming a cascading stairway that ties the two buildings together in a way that feels organic and inviting.

From its reclaimed materials to its energy-conscious construction, Woodland Wonder is a true reflection of thoughtful, sustainable design — where history, innovation, and nature coexist beautifully.
